Leaving Ukraine

An account of how Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in Feburary 2022 changed one boy’s life

It’s early 2022 and Russian troops are amassing on the northern and eastern border with Ukraine. Few imagined that almost 3 years later the invasion that followed would still be raging. Sue Johns, who spent over 30 years looking after foreign students in her own language school in the UK, felt compelled to come to the aid of those fleeing the bombing. In “Leaving Ukraine” she gives a fascinating account of how she helped one boy, Yurii, who came to stay in her own family home in Ombersley.

Sue Johns has a BA (Hons) in English and History. Her teaching qualifications include a PGCE and a Diploma in English Teaching to Adults. She has been an Ombersley resident for over 36 years, where she lives with her husband and two dogs.
